Griffin – CH Afara Go the Distance

Australian Ch. Trehilyn Don’t Hold Back x Afara Zipadeedoodah

The second puppy out of the Torrin x ZuZu litter to be shown was “Griffin” Afara Go the Distance. Griffin was the obvious pick-of-litter before 8 weeks. Lovely head, significant neck and body length, good bone and SHOWY temperament. He had a good sidegait and was very sound coming/going. And he was DM Clear! Like his brother, Griffin started his “Puppy Uglies” at 6 months but unlike Gideon he did not come out of his awkwardness until he was over 2 years of age. So Griffin sat at home.

My good friend, Rhonda Rainwater Silivera, called me and told me that her grandson, Josh, has always wanted a Pembroke to sleep on his bed and be his best buddy. Griffin had not come out of his adolescent stages but I knew he would make a terrific bed buddy so I shipped him down to Josh. Josh’s brother Jordan wanted to use Griffin as his Junior’s dog so he was registered in his and his mother, Reggie’s name. Jordan showed Griffin several times.

In February of 2020 Griffin was shipped to Kara Janiszak to finish. He quickly won Winners Dog/Award of Merit at the Houston Specialty under Tammy Johnston (Riverun). Then Winners Dog at the Ohio Valley Supported Entry under Terry Hansen (Pinemeade). The day after that show all dog shows were canceled because of COVID 19. Kara kept Griffin for a few months waiting for shows to restart then he finished quickly afterwards.

Interestingly, Griffin’s sidegait did not return until he was 2.5 years. Pictures by Alyssa Janiszak

Griffin has OFA Good hips, elbows Normal, DM/vWD/eyes/cardiac Clear, cardiac done by Echo Cardiogram and both cardiac and eyes done at 9 weeks.
